What Is Poverty?
It's that time of the year again when many will be thinking about the poor. Although this should happen all year long, thank God it at least happens between Nov-Dec.
What does it mean to be poor? To address poverty?
Some of our friends who work downtown with the homeless and needy believe ministry to the poor is more about relationships and respect that goods and services. A couple of them pointed me to the video below. Check it out:

You know it is funny (strange). You never could have told me that I would one day work weekly with poor and homeless people. I guess I thought that was for someone tougher and more streetwise than me.
I thought I could never be like those street preachers, who acted so much different than me. So Suzanne and I began to go downtown Raleigh in January 2007. We were uncomfortable with standing behind a table serving food, so we began to go out and talk to people. This began something beautiful, where we eventually started going downtown every Sunday. We go because most of our friends are down there now. Friends who have MUCH less than us, but most just want someone to listen to them, and pray for them. I never thought I would be involved in something like this, but I guess I am finding that the place that seems the most risky to us, brings the greatest reward. I can't wait for CNX to meet all our friends downtown on November 16th. I loved the video, this is what we do, at least try to do!
